Hello Mrs. Jones 9:07 Fri Dec 30

Bit Harsh that anything under $300 a night is not very good.

W Hotels Downtown are about $160 a night. If you want to spend $300 a night, then you can get some great hotels including the Beekman which is new.

On a personal note - I would not stay in Midtown, its very touristy and trashy. Downtown NYC is much more fun and representative of NYC these days.

Stayed at the Metro Hotel in March

http://www.hotelmetronyc.com/

50 yards from a metro station, one street from the Empire State, one minute walk to Macys and about ten minute walk to Times Square. Breakfast included and a free wine tasting for a couple of hours from 5pm.

We went for the week before Christmas and stayed in the doubletree on Lexington avenue. Good location, close enough to the Times Square touristy bits to walk, but not stupidly busy. Also right next to a subway station.
Just don't drink in the bar there. 3 double spirits and mixers cost us $95
